The World Fund for Development and Planning (WFDP) has taken note of statements attributed to the Government of Israel regarding the announced recognition of the “Somaliland” region as an independent entity.
WFDP wishes to express its clear and principled rejection, both in form and substance, of any unilateral action that purports to alter the internationally recognized status of territories belonging to a sovereign State. Such actions are inconsistent with the principles of the Charter of the United Nations, including respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, political independence of States, and non-interference in internal affairs.
WFDP reiterates its firm position that the Federal Republic of Somalia is a sovereign State and a Member of the United Nations, whose unity and territorial integrity are recognized by the international community. Any change to the legal or political status of regions within Somalia can only occur through peaceful, inclusive, and internationally recognized processes, and within the framework of international law and multilateral consensus.
In accordance with the Headquarters Agreement and the cooperation agreements concluded between WFDP and the Federal Republic of Somalia, WFDP reaffirms its full and unequivocal support for the internationally recognized Federal Government of Somalia, and reiterates its rejection of any measures or declarations that may undermine Somalia’s unity or stability.
WFDP further underscores that actions taken outside established multilateral mechanisms risk heightening regional tensions and undermining efforts aimed at peace, stability, and sustainable development, particularly in sensitive regions such as the Horn of Africa. The Organization recalls the importance of addressing international and regional issues through dialogue, diplomacy, and respect for international legal frameworks.
In this context, WFDP confirms its intention to continue engaging constructively with its affiliated institutions, partners, and international stakeholders to promote awareness of the importance of upholding international law, preventing destabilizing precedents, and supporting peaceful resolution of disputes.
WFDP also reaffirms its readiness to place its institutional, technical, and developmental capacities at the disposal of the Federal Government of Somalia, upon request, in support of national priorities related to stability, development, and the preservation of sovereignty and territorial integrity.
WFDP calls upon all States and international actors to act with restraint, to uphold the principles and purposes of the United Nations Charter, and to contribute to international peace, security, and sustainable development through cooperative and multilateral approaches.
